Genesis 21:1-21

This Sunday, we will celebrate Refugee and Immigrant Welcome Sunday.  Our scripture this week continues our journey in Genesis—with the birth of Isaac to Sarah and the banishment of Hagar and Ishmael.  In light of Refugee and Immigrant Welcome Sunday, we will consider: What does it mean to be unwelcome in your own home?  How does God continue to meet us and love us, even through all of the pain, rejection, uncertainty, and grief?

Genesis 18:1-15

I look forward to sharing worship with you this Sunday, as we continue in the Pentecost season—in the time we call Ordinary Time—but which is really a time of growth and insight and hope in what the church can do!  This Sunday we continue in the book of Genesis—with the story of the 3 visitors at the tent of Abraham and Sarah.  We will focus on the importance of welcoming strangers, the challenges they may bring, and the pros and cons of laughter. . . .

I look forward to sharing worship with you this Sunday, as we enter into this Pentecost season.  This Sunday we will begin a series of sermons from the book of Genesis.  And so, we will begin at the beginning:  the first story of creation.  The priestly story (Do you remember our conversation about the different authors of the Hebrew Bible?).  We will focus our attention on creation, climate, weather, and what it means to be created in the image of God.
